If you’re looking for something a bit more off the beaten path, ‘Palm Springs’ is a fun, modern take on a classic Groundhog Day-esque time loop. Plus, Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti have great chemistry, and it’s both funny and thought-provoking in parts.
For something more intense, give ‘Possessor’ (2020) a watch. Directed by Brandon Cronenberg (yes, David Cronenberg’s son), it’s a pretty mind-bending sci-fi thriller about mind control and has some truly stunning visuals.
If you’re into animation, check out ‘Wolfwalkers’ by Cartoon Saloon. It’s a beautifully crafted Irish animated film that boasts an incredible art style and a heartfelt story.
In the realm of lesser-known stuff - ‘Sound of Metal’ is really impactful. Riz Ahmed’s performance as a drummer losing his hearing is phenomenal, and the sound design, which gives you a feel of his experience, is next-level.
Finally, if you haven’t seen it yet, ‘The Vast of Night’ is a low-budget but highly atmospheric sci-fi set in 1950s New Mexico. The dialogue can be a bit dense, but the story is intriguing and feels super original.
