What is DGVC1IndexNV?

DGVC1IndexNV, part of the DGVC1DecNV package, is primarily designed to create an index of a VC1 Advanced Profile video stream, containing the location of each frame in the input stream, and some additional information about each frame. This index, or project file, is used by the companion Avisynth filter DGVC1DecodeNV to provide frame-accurate serving of the video via an Avisynth script. DGVC1IndexNV is currently limited to opening elementary (raw 264), transport (TS and M2TS), and Matroska (MKV) VC1 streams (MP4 files are not yet supported).

The "NV" in the name "DGVC1IndexNV" indicates that this version of the program is designed for use with the VP2 GPU decoder on some Nvidia video cards. Data is currently being compiled on which Nvidia cards work with this software and the data will be added to this document when available.

This document is a reference manual for DGVC1IndexNV. Please refer to the accompanying documents for quick start information, frequently asked questions, and guidance on actual usage of DGVC1IndexNV in typical scenarios.

File Menu

Open	Table of Contents

Use this option to open the source VC1 file (elementary, transport, and Matroska streams only). Currently, although the GUI allows for selecting multiple files, only the first file is processed and the others are ignored.

Clicking on File\Open causes one of two things to happen:

1. If no files have yet been selected, the Open dialog will appear.
   Click "Open" to proceed to the File List dialog.

2. If a file has already been selected, the File List dialog will open.
   

Files can also be loaded by dragging-and-dropping them onto the DGVC1IndexNV window. This causes the File List to be opened with the list containing the drag-and-dropped file.

Load Project

Use this option to open existing DGVC1IndexNV (dgv) project files.

When a project file is loaded, DGVC1IndexNV opens the project's source file and restores the following settings from the project file:

• YUV -> RGB Scale
• Luminance Filter
• Cropping

• Audio demux list

Use this option to close all open input files.

Save Project

Use this option to generate a DGVC1IndexNV project file (dgv file). The project file is used by DGVC1DecodeNV to frame-serve the video via Avisynth.

DGVC1IndexNV builds a project file containing the path to the source file, the video settings, and VC1 indexing information. For more information on the structure of dgv files, refer to Appendix A.

Generation of the project file can take several minutes depending on the size of the project and the speed of your computer.

Save Project and Demux Video

Use this option to generate a DGVC1IndexNV project file (dgv file) as described in the section "Save Project" above, and at the same time demultiplex the video to a separate VC1 elementary stream file (vc1 file). Elementary stream files are sometimes needed for use with other applications. DGVC1IndexNV provides this functionality as a convenient tool for the sophisticated user; it is not required for frame serving via DGVC1DecodeNV.

The elementary stream file will be generated in the same directory as the project (dgv) file, and its name will be created by concatenating the base name of the project file with ".demuxed.vc1". For example, if the project file is named "movie.dgv", the elementary stream file will be named "movie.demuxed.vc1".

Save BMP

Use this option to save the current frame on display in the DGVC1IndexNV window to a Windows BMP file. When this option is selected, a file dialog will open that allows you to specify the desired name and location for the BMP file.

Preview, Play, Stop, Pause/Resume

Use these options to control video playback in the display window. Keyboard hotkeys are given in parentheses.

• Preview (F5) - Plays from the beginning to the end of the timeline.
• Play (F6) - Plays from the current position on the timeline.
• Stop (ESC) - Stops a running Play or Preview.
• Pause/Resume (SPACE) - Pauses/resumes a running Play or Preview.

The Play/Preview commands decode and display all frames from the starting point, i.e., they do not suppress orphaned frames. if any, at the start of the GOP. So you may see macroblocking on the first few frames of a Play/Preview operation if your stream has open GOPs. Note that this is purely a display matter in DGVC1IndexNV; it never occurs in the frame-served video or in demultiplexed video files. While such frames could have been suppressed, DGVC1IndexNV is intended for analysis and not playback; it can be useful to operate this way because one can easily identify open GOPs in the stream. Note that when navigating on the timeline, orphaned frames are suppressed.

The video playback speed is controlled by the playback speed control options available via the Options/Playback Speed menu.

Play and Preview automatically pop up the Information Panel.

Detect PIDs: PAT/PMT

DGVC1IndexNV can open transport streams. Transport streams can contain multiple programs, each of which contains audio and video streams. The Stream menu allows the user to list the programs and to select the desired program to be decoded. The stream menu is disabled if the input stream is not a transport stream. Transport streams periodically send data tables called the PAT/PMT tables that specify the programs and tags (PIDs) for the associated audio and video streams. By setting the PID for the desired video stream, you thereby select the desired program to decode. Note that only the video and PCR PIDs can be set in this menu. Use the "Audio/Audio Demux" option to set audio PIDs.

Use the "Detect PIDs: PAT/PMT" option to list the programs and their associated streams, and to select the desired video stream to be decoded. DGVC1IndexNV will parse the input file for the PAT/PMT tables and, if found, will display the programs and their PIDs in a list box. If PAT/PMT tables cannot be found, an error message will be shown instead, in which case the list box should be closed and the "Detect PIDs: Raw" option used instead.

To select the desired video stream, highlight it by selecting it with a mouse click. Then click on the "Set Video" button. To select the desired PCR stream, highlight it by selecting it with a mouse click. Then click on the "Set PCR" button. When you have selected your PIDs, click on the "Done" button to close the list box. The video should now be displayed in the DGVC1IndexNV window.

Note that unless you use the Log Timestamps function, the PCR PID is not used and can be ignored.

The PIDs are stored in the DGVC1IndexNV.ini file and so will be retained across DGVC1IndexNV sessions.

Note that selecting an audio stream as video will produce undefined operation and may crash DGVC1IndexNV. For that reason, the video PID comes up by default as 0x02, which is a reserved value. However, because the DGVC1IndexNV.ini file retains PIDs from a previous session, you may run into this. If you get strange behavior or crashing, then manually set the video PID to 0x02 using the "Set PIDs" option before loading your input file, and then detect and set your video PID normally.

Detect PIDs: Raw

Rarely, a transport stream may lack PAT/PMT tables. In such cases, the PIDs of the audio and video streams can be displayed and selected using the "Detect PIDs: Raw" option. Because raw PID detection does not show which audio and video streams go together, some trial and error may be required to find which audio and video PIDs belong together (commonly encountered pairs of associated video/audio PIDs are 11/14, 21/24, and 31/34). For that reason "Detect PIDs: PAT/PMT" should always be tried first.

The operation of the "Detect PIDs: Raw" list box is the same as described above for the "Detect PIDs: PAT/PMT" list box.

Set PIDs

Use this option to manually specify the video and PCR PIDs using hexadecimal notation, or to query the selected PIDs. If you use this dialog to specify your PIDs, DGVC1IndexNV will not detect PIDs and will simply use the specified PIDs to select the video and PCR streams. Note that only the video and PCR PIDs can be set in this menu. Use the "Audio/Audio Demux" option to set audio PIDs.

Note that selecting an audio stream as video will produce undefined operation and may crash DGVC1IndexNV. For that reason, the video PID comes up by default as 0x02, which is a reserved value. Field Operation

VC1 video provides syntax elements that allow a single field or frame to be repeated automatically during display ("pulled down"). The extra fields/frames do not occupy space in the VC1 stream but are simply created by copying when the stream is decoded and displayed. This facility is most often used to display film rate clips (23.976 fps) at the NTSC rate (29.97 fps), a process called 3:2 pulldown. In practice, however, pulldown in various different patterns is commonly encountered. It can be used, for example, to display 25 fps PAL at the NTSC rate. You can learn about telecining and pulldown at this web site.

Understanding the theory and practice required to properly set this option for a given application is nontrivial. Here we can only define the operations and give some general guidance. There is ample additional material available in existing guides.

The Field Operation setting allows the user to specify how the pulldown flags are to be handled. Note that this setting affects only the video served via DGVC1DecodeNV. In DGVC1IndexNV, the video is always shown in the Ignore Pulldown Flags mode.

• Honor Pulldown Flags - The pulldown flags (if any) are obeyed and the fields are repeated. This means that the frame-served video will appear exactly as it is intended to appear on the final display device. Therefore, if you have a 3:2 pulled-down clip, you'll get the standard repeating pattern of 3 progressive frames followed by 2 interlaced frames. If you have PAL, you'll just get the encoded pictures with no repeated fields (because PAL has no pulldown flags to honor). The frame rate will always be the same as the display frame rate of the source.
• Ignore Pulldown Flags - The pulldown flags are ignored. This allows one to obtain the raw encoded VC1 pictures, with no repeated fields/frames. However, because repeated fields/frames intended for display are ignored and not displayed, the resulting frame rate may differ from the source frame rate. It may even vary throughout the clip, due to irregular patterns of pulldown flags. If the pulldown is irregular, use of this option will cause the audio-video sync to change at different parts of the clip, and most likely sync will not be acceptable. This option is mostly intended for power users, who would use it as a diagnostic aid for inspecting the encoded VC1 pictures. Although this option ignores the flags, they are still stored in the DGV file although DGVC1DecodeNV will ignore them.
• Force Film - This option is intended for the special case of film content encoded at 23.976 fps but pulled down for display at 29.97 fps, i.e., 3:2 pulldown. This option will restore the 23.976 fps film rate while keeping audio and video in sync throughout the clip. This option works by ignoring pulldown flags and adjusting the frame rate back to the film rate. Do not use this option on non-3:2 pulled-down material, and, therefore, never use it on PAL. Currently, this option requires 3:2 pulldown throughout the stream, and so it cannot be used on hybrid film/video. For hybrid streams, use Honor Pulldown Flags and post-process as required.

The Field Operation is perhaps the most important option to understand when using DGVC1IndexNV. Most users should first preview the project and inspect the Information Panel. If the clip is 29.976fps, and the Field Repeats box in the Information Panel indicates field repeats consistent with 3:2 pulldown, then it is likely that the clip can be treated as 3:2 pulldown material, and so the Force Film option should be selected for generation of the DGV file.

Otherwise, then you should leave this option set to Honor Pulldown Flags for generation of the DGV file. If the result is combed (because the source is interlaced, hybrid interlaced/3:2, field blended, etc.), you may want to apply a deinterlacer or inverse telecine (IVTC) filter in your Avisynth script.

Almost invariably, if you know the source is not all 3:2 pulled-down NTSC, you will want to select Honor Pulldown Flags and then post-process as required. Keep in mind that if there are no pulldown flags, there is nothing to honor, so this option just delivers the encoded frames.

The Ignore Pulldown Flags option should be necessary only for advanced users who want to see just the exact coded pictures in the VC1 stream. Currently this is just Force Film but without the frame rate modification. In a future version, Force Film will operate on hybrid material and will decimate frames as required in video sections to maintain the film rate. At that time the distinction between Force Film and Ignore Pulldown Flags will be more meaningful.

YUV->RGB

For display in the DGVC1IndexNV window, the video is always converted to RGB. This option specifies how the colorspace conversion to RGB is to be performed.

• PC scale - Map output RGB to full range: YUV [16, 235(Y)/240(UV)] -> RGB [0, 255]
• TV scale - Map output RGB to clipped range: YUV [16, 235(Y)/240(UV)] -> RGB [16, 235]

This option affects only conversion to RGB for display in DGVC1IndexNV. It does not affect the the video sent to DGVC1DecodeNV. For the served video, you can convert to RGB in your Avisynth script if needed.

Enable PureVideo Deinterlacer

Use this option to enable/disable the Nvidia PureVideo deinterlacer. If you have HD video, you will have to enable the Display HD Full Sized option to see the effects of the deinterlacer in DGVC1IndexNV.

Check Single Rate to enable classical deinterlacing, where the number of output frames is the same as the number of input frames.

Check Double Rate to enable bobbing, where each field of an input frame generates a full frame in the output. Note 1: Double rate deinterlacing requires Windows XP Service Pack 3! Note 2: Double Rate deinterlacing here is intended only to show how the video will look when served with VC1Source(deinterlace=2), so some of the Info dialog fields (such as frame rate and playback frame count) are not adjusted to reflect the double rate.

The option is stored in the INI file.

Display HD Full Sized

Use this option to display HD video at full size instead of shrunk by half. This can be useful for inspecting your video, because interlacing cannot be seen when video is shrunk by half.

The option is not stored in the INI file.

Disable Display

Table of Contents

This option is intended for getting an idea of the performance of the GPU's decoding engine. When this option is enabled, all display operations are disabled except for one: the FPS field of the Info dialog is updated. If you load your stream, select this option, and start a preview, the FPS field will show the raw decoding rate of the GPU decoder as implemented in DGVC1IndexNV. Note that the conversion from YV12 to RGB24 used when display is enabled is very CPU intensive. So if you want to assess the frame rate and CPU utilization of the GPU decoder, it is necessary to disable the display.

Luminance Filter

Use this option to perform luminance adjustments.

Use the checkbox in the upper left corner to Enable or Disable this filter. Position the Gamma and Offset controls until desired results are achieved. DGVC1IndexNV stores the luminance adjustment settings in the DGV file and DGVC1DecodeNV reads them and applies the same luminance adjustment to the served video, so that what you see in the DGVC1IndexNV window is what you get in the served video.

Gamma performs a non-linear adjustment, while offset just adds or subtracts luminance for all the pixels. It is beyond the scope of this manual to describe the concept of gamma. Google is your friend.

Cropping Filter

Use this option to crop your video.

Use the checkbox in the upper left corner to Enable or Disable this filter. Position the Left, Right, Top, and Bottom controls until desired results are achieved. DGVC1IndexNV stores the cropping settings in the DGV file and DGVC1DecodeNV reads them and applies the same cropping to the served video, so that what you see in the DGVC1IndexNV window is what you get in the served video.

Copy Frame to Clipboard

Use this option to copy the frame on display to the clipboard. It may then be pasted into suitable graphics applications.

Audio Demux (Transport Streams)

DGVC1IndexNV can open transport streams. Transport streams can contain multiple programs, each of which contains audio and video streams. The Audio Demux menu allows the user to select audio streams to be demultiplexed when a Save Project operation is performed. The following audio types are currently supported: MPEG audio, AAC ADTS audio, AAC LATM/LOAS, AC3 audio, DTS audio, and LPCM audio. Additional formats will be added as test streams are received.

The "Available audio streams" listbox lists the audio streams that were detected. To select an audio stream for demultiplexing, highlight it by selecting it with a mouse click. Then click on the "Set" button. The stream's PID will be added to the list in the "Audio streams to demux" listbox. To remove a stream from the list, highlight it and then click on the "Clear" button. Use the "Set All" and "Clear All" buttons to add or remove all the available audio streams, respectively. When you have selected your audio PIDs, click on the "Done" button to close the menu. Now subsequently, when you perform a Save Project operation, the selected audio streams will be demultiplexed. Also, if you do a Preview or Play operation, the detected audio streams will be listed on the Info dialog.

Demuxed audio files will be named after the project name and additional parameters of the audio format. For example: "bbc.hd PID 90f 2_0ch 384Kbps.ac3".

When LPCM is demuxed from a transport stream, usually an M2TS (Blu-Ray) stream, the raw PCM is stored in the output file. You can convert this to a standard wave file using the popular SOX audio processor tool, which you can get here:

A typical command line would be as follows (although you need to check your audio parameters in the Info dialog to choose the correct SOX options):

sox -B -r48000 -t .raw -c 6 -2 -s "Blu-ray PCM PID 1101 DELAY 0ms.pcm" "out.wav"

A future version of DGVC1IndexNV may integrate WAV packaging functionality to eliminate the need for SOX.

It is possible that audio streams are declared in the PAT/PMT tables but are not actually present in the source file, in which case demultiplexing them will fail to produce demultiplexed files. You can test for the actual presence of declared streams by doing a Preview operation. If the streams are actually present they will be listed on the Info dialog.

The audio demultiplexing settings are not stored in the DGVC1IndexNV.ini file.

Audio Demux (Matroska Streams)

DGVC1IndexNV can open Matroska streams. Transport streams can contain multiple audio tracks. The Audio Demux menu allows the user to select and demultiplex the desired audio track(s). The following audio types are currently supported: MPEG audio, AAC ADTS audio, AC3 audio, DTS audio, and FLAC audio. Additional formats will be added as test streams are received.

The "Available audio streams" listbox lists the audio tracks that were detected in the Matroska file. To select an audio stream for demultiplexing, highlight it by selecting it with a mouse click. Then click on the "Demux" button. You will prompted to specify the destination file to receive the demultiplexed audio. After you have specified the file, the audio track will be demultiplexed immediately. The progress of the operation is displayed by the progress bar.

The demultiplexing operation honors the project range settings made via the [ and ] buttons.

No audio delay value is reported because the video and audio are always demultiplexed starting at the same timecode in the Matroska file.

Loop Playback

Table of Contents

When this option is selected and playback during a Preview or Play operation reaches the end of the timeline, playback will automatically start again at the beginning of the timeline.

Playback Speed

Specify the playback speed for play and preview operations.

• Single Step - Step forward one frame at a time (see description below).
• Super Slow - 5 frames/sec.
• Slow - 10 frames/sec.
• Normal - The frame rate of the stream.
• Fast - Double the frame rate of the stream (two times Normal).
• Maximum - The fastest possible rate that your computer can perform.

The single step mode is controlled by the right arrow button (>) on the timeline. Note that during a single-stepping operation, you cannot navigate on the timeline. To single-step from a new location, first exit the play operation, then reposition on the timeline in the normal way, and restart the play operation. Finally, single-stepping does not give you per-frame granularity for cuts and timeline positioning; it just allows you to pace the playback so that individual frames can be examined.

Process Priority

Specify what CPU usage priority Windows will assign to DGVC1IndexNV.

• High
• Normal
• Low

Use this option if you are running multiple applications at once, and want to prioritize (or de-prioritize) DGVC1IndexNV for CPU usage.

AVS Template

Table of Contents

DGVC1IndexNV can automatically generate an Avisynth script for serving your project. It requires you to specify a template file, such as the following one:

  loadplugin("...\DGVC1DecodeNV.dll")
  loadplugin("...\Decomb.dll")
  vc1source("__vid__")
  fielddeinterlace()

This is any normal AVS script, except that the DGV file name is replaced with __vid__ (that's two underscores before "vid" and two after). When DGVC1IndexNV creates the AVS script, it replaces __vid__ with the correct DGV file name.

To select and enable a template, use the Options/AVS Template pulldown menu item to set your template file as the active template file. After performing a Save Project operation, DGVC1IndexNV uses this file as a template and inserts the right file name whenever it sees __vid__.

You may also use the __aud__ specifier to generate the audio file name. Note that if you are generating more than one audio file, this specifier will refer to the first audio file that is opened. Therefore, to be sure to get the desired audio file, process just one audio stream.

You may also use the __del__ specifier to generate the delay value for use in DelayAudio(__del__).

DGVC1IndexNV creates the AVS script file only if it does not already exist. The script file is created in the same directory as the DGV file.

The AVS Template dialog box displays the current active template file. If no file is shown, then a template is not being used. The dialog box provides three possible actions:

Don't Use Template: Choose this action if you do not want DGVC1IndexNV to automatically create AVS scripts.

Change Template File: Choose this action to select your template file and make it the active template for AVS generation. This action pops up a file dialog which you use to select your template file.

Keep Current Template Choose this action if you want to keep the current template file.

This option setting is stored in the INI file and so is retained across DGVC1IndexNV invocations. When an INI file is not present, the AVS Template path defaults to a file named "template.avs" and located in the same directory as that of the executed DGVC1IndexNV.exe.

Use Full Paths

DGV files and AVS files created via an AVS template contain references to files. This option controls whether they should be stored as relative paths or full paths. When this option is disabled, the DGV file and generated AVS scripts will suppress the full path information and provide just the relative paths; everything is relative to the location of the DGV file.

The option to continue using full paths was retained to provide backward compatibility to third-party applications.

This option setting is stored in the INI file and so is retained across DGVC1IndexNV invocations.

Enable Info Log

When the Enable Info Log option is checked and the Information Panel is closed, either manually or automatically by DGVC1IndexNV, a log file is created that contains the information displayed in the Information Panel at the time of closure. The file name used is that of the input file with the extension changed to "log". The log file is created in the same directory as the input file. If this directory is not writable, then the log file is not created.

This option setting is stored in the INI file and so is retained across DGVC1IndexNV invocations.

These options open the respective documents in your browser. To work, the files "VC1QuickStart.html", "DGVC1IndexManual.html", "DGVC1DecodeNVManual.html" that are included in the DGVC1DecNV package must be in the same directory as the "DGVC1IndexNV.exe" file. Do not rename these files.

Display Window

Navigation

Preview the video file and select the start/end points for the project.

Use the navigation slider, and these two buttons for navigation:

< - Seek to previous GOP (sequence header).
> - Seek to next GOP frame.



Currently, the display window displays only the first frame of a GOP in navigation mode (because they are possible selection points for cutting the video). This makes the video appear to jump when stepping, instead of moving smoothly. Of course, during play, preview, or frameserving, all frames are shown.

The mouse scrollwheel is supported. When you are not in play/preview mode, the scrollwheel will act as do the right and left arrow keys (< and >), i.e., it will effect GOP stepping. When you are in play/preview mode with single stepping enabled, the scrollwheel will act as does the right arrow key (>), i.e., it will effect frame stepping.

The video may in some cases appear stretched/squashed in the display window because DGVC1IndexNV displays the video as is it stored in the VC1 stream, which may not be the same as the final display size. For an explanation, read Doom9's article on Aspect Ratios.

When a video is displayed that has a frame size that will not fit on a 1024x768 desktop, the video is reduced in size by a factor of two. Thus, high-definition (HD) videos can be previewed without requiring scrolling.

Selection

Starting and ending points for the project may also be optionally specified.

[ button or HOME key - Mark selection start point.
] button or END key - Mark selection end point.


When doing Save Project or Preview, the operation will be applied only to the portion of the timeline between the selected start and end points.

By default, the entire timeline is automatically selected. Selection start/end point can be changed, but only one set of start/end point may be specified for a project (i.e.: multiple start/end points are not yet supported).

Splash Screen

When no input file is loaded DGVC1IndexNV can display a splash screen. To enable this feature, place an appropriately sized windows BMP file called "dgvc1index.bmp" in the same directory as DGVC1IndexNV.exe. Several sample BMPs are available from the DGVC1DecNV home page.

Information Panel

The Information Panel displays important statistics about the loaded video stream. Information displayed in this panel is often essential for correctly processing DGVC1IndexNV projects, especially when frameserving into third-party applications. The Information Panel is displayed when a project is saved or when using the Play/Preview commands. Note that when doing a Play/Preview operation, the information will apply only to the section actually played or previewed.

When the Enable Info Log option is checked and the Information Panel is closed, either manually or automatically by DGVC1IndexNV, a log file is created that contains the information displayed in the Information Panel at the time of closure. The file name used is that of the input file with the extension changed to "log". The log file is created in the same directory as the input file. If this directory is not writable, then the log file is not created.

Video Section

Stream Type - Displays the stream type. Currently, DGVC1IndexNV is limited to VC1 elementary streams, transport streams, and Matroska streams.

Profile - This field displays the VC1 profile used to encode the currently loaded video.

Level - This field displays the VC1 level used to encode the currently loaded video.

Coded Size - Displays the encoded size of the frame in the currently displayed video. Note that this is the encoded frame size, which can differ from the display size (see below).

Display Size - Displays the display frame size. This is the coded size minus any cropping specified by the VC1 stream. DAR - Displays the display aspect ratio specified in the VC1 stream.

Frame Rate - Displays the encoded playback frame rate of the currently loaded video.

Colorimetry - Displays the colorimetry scheme used by the stream. Note that if the stream does not declare the colorimetry, then ITU-R BT.709* is reported for HD video, and ITU-R BT.601* is reported for SD video. The * character indicates that the stream did not declare the colorimetry. The actual value read from the stream is shown in brackets.

Sequence - Displays whether the current sequence is progressive or interlaced. Note that when the sequence is shown as "Progressive", then all the frames of the sequence are in fact progressive. If the sequence is shown as "Interlaced", then some frames may be prgressive, some interlaced, and some pulled down. Refer to the other Info dialog fields for furth information on the nature of individual fields.

Frame Struct - Displays the encoded structure of the current frame: Progressive, Frame Interlaced, or Field Interlaced.

Frame Type - Displays the type of the current frame: Intra (I), Predicted (P), Bidirectional Predicted (B), Bidirectional Intra (BI), or P Skipped (Pskip).

Coded # - Displays the total number of coded VC1 frames encountered during the Save Project, Play, or Preview operation. If you Preview the stream from beginning to end, the coded count will be equal to the number of frames that the decoder was able to decode, and it should match the frame count that DGVC1DecodeNV reports via the Avisynth script. However, when you Save Project, the coded count may be a few frames higher, because all encoded frames are indexed, even if they are not decodable (frames are not decoded and displayed during a Save Project operation).

Playback # - Displays the total number of VC1 frames displayed during the Save Project, Play, or Preview operation. This number can be greater than the Coded # if pulldown is present

Frame Rpts - Displays the total number of extra frames displayed due to frame repeat flags during the Save Project, Play, or Preview operation.

Field Rpts - Displays the total number of extra fields displayed due to field repeat flags encountered during the Save Project, Play, or Preview operation.

Bitrate - Displays a windowed video bitrate averaged over the last 30 frames.

Bitrate (Avg) - Displays the video bitrate averaged over all the displayed frames.

Bitrate (Max) - Displays the maximum video bitrate encountered over all the displayed frames.

Audio Section

Displays the audio streams that were detected in the source stream.

Status Section

Elapsed - Displays the time elapsed since starting the current Save Project, Play, or Preview operation.

Remain - Displays the time remaining for completion of the current Save Project, Play, or Preview operation.

FPS - Displays the frame rate achieved by DGVC1IndexNV's play/preview process. Note that this may not match the video frame rate of the stream, because the user can configure the playback speed, and because DGVC1IndexNV may not be able to decode the stream in real time.

Info - Displays video error information.

APPENDIX A: DGV File Structure

This Appendix documents the syntax and semantics of the DGV file format. Normal users need not concern themselves with this information, as it is intended for developers and power users.

There are three sections to all DGV files: 1) the header section, 2) the settings section, and 3) the data section. These sections are described below.

DGV Format - Header Section

Following is a typical header section:

The first line always begins with the string "DGVC1IndexFile" immediately followed by a DGV version string. This string is checked by DGVC1DecodeNV and must match the version expected. This mechanism thus enforces the requirement that DGVC1IndexNV and DGVC1DecodeNV must be used in matched pairs. If DGVC1DecodeNV rejects your DGV file as "obsolete", be sure that you are using the correct version of DGVC1DecodeNV. Sometimes one forgets that one has an older version in the Avisynth plugins folder, or one forgets to upgrade DGVC1DecodeNV when upgrading DGVC1IndexNV.

The second line is blank and the third line specifies the input video file. The fourth line specifies the path to the DGVC1IndexNV executable that DGVC1DecodeNV will use to find the license file. The header section must then terminate with a blank line.

The source file reference consists of either a relative path and filename, if the Use Full Paths option is disabled; or the full absolute path of the referenced file, if the Use Full Paths option is enabled. If the Use Full Paths option is enabled and the referenced file is moved after creation of the DGV file, you must either edit the path to be correct, or you must regenerate your DGV file.

DGV Format - Settings Section

The settings section consists of one-line specifiers. The following specifiers are defined:

STREAM 1


The number on this line is interpreted as follows: 0 = elementary stream, 1 = transport stream, 2 = Matroska stream.

PKTSIZ 188


This specifier appears only if the input file is a transport stream. The number on this line specifies the transport packet size in bytes.

VPID 68


This specifier appears only if the input file is a transport stream. The number on this line specifies the video PID that was selected in DGVC1IndexNV.

FO 2


The number on this line is interpreted as follows: 0 = Honor Pulldown Flags, 1 = Force Film, and 2 = Ignore Pulldown Flags.

YUVRGB 1


The number on this line is interpreted as follows: 0 = TV scale, 1 = PC scale.

LUMFILT 0 0


The first number on this line is the luminance filter gamma. The second number is the luminance filter offset.

CLIP 0 0 0 0


The first number on this line is the cropping left value. The second number is the cropping right value. The third number is the cropping top value. The fourth number is the cropping bottom value.

RANGE 0 0


For elementary and transport streams, the first number on this line is the offset in the source file corresponding to the left selection range value. The second number is the corresponding trackbar position (0 to 3000). The third number is the offset in the source file corresponding to the right selection range value. The fourth number is the corresponding trackbar position.

For Matroska streams, the first number on this line is the timecode in the source file corresponding to the left selection range value. The second number is the corresponding trackbar position (0 to 3000). The third number is the timecode in the source file corresponding to the right selection range value. The fourth number is the corresponding trackbar position. Note that the right timecode value of 18446744073709551615 (0xffffffffffffffff) is special; it denotes that a left range is not set, or in other words, the left range is the end of the file.

AUDIO 80,c0


The string on this line is the comma-separated list of audio id's to demux. This line will list no audio id's for elementary and Matroska streams.

The data section of a DGV file contains the indexing of the VC1 video stream. The syntax for each keyword line is as follows:

• SEQ n interlaced_flag pulldown_flag: For elementary and transport streams, a Sequence Header is located at offset n (decimal) in the source file. For Matroska streams, a Sequence Header is located at timecode n (decimal) in the source file. The interlaced_flag field displays the value of the corresponding VC1 syntax element. "INTERLACE" means the flag is set; "!INTERLACE" means the flag is not set. The pulldown_flag field displays the value of the corresponding VC1 syntax element. "PULLDOWN" means the flag is set; "!PULLDOWN" means the flag is not set.
• ENTRY n broken_flag closed_flag: For elementary and transport streams, an entry point header is located at offset n (decimal) in the source file. For Matroska streams, an entry point header is located at timecode n (decimal) in the source file.The broken_flag field displays the value of the corresponding VC1 syntax element. "BROKEN" means the broken_link flag is set; "!BROKEN" means the flag is not set. The closed_flag field displays the value of the corresponding VC1 syntax element. "CLOSED" means the flag is set (closed GOP); "!CLOSED" means the flag is not set (open GOP).
• FRM x y: A frame of coding type x (I/P/B/BI/Pskip) with frame structure y (PROG/FRAME/FIELD) is present in the source file.
• SIZ W x H: The video frames have a width of W and a height of H.
• FPS N / D: The frame rate of the video is N/D.
• CODED n: The number of coded frames in the project.
• PLAYBACK n: The number of playback frames in the project.

DGVC1IndexNV can also be executed via a command-line interface. This feature is intended for use in automated scripts and batch files, and for use by third-party applications. Following is the syntax and semantics for the command line interface. Note that options not included are controlled by DGVC1IndexNV defaults and the DGVC1IndexNV INI file.

Hide	-h	Starts and runs DGVC1IndexNV in the hidden state and exits when the project has been saved (forces -e option).

Note that quoting is supported only for the -i and -o options.

APPENDIX C: Auxiliary INI File Options

Some aspects of DGVC1IndexNV's behavior can be modified via the INI file but not through the GUI, as described below. DGVC1IndexNV creates defaults for these settings, but you can modify these lines in the INI file as you wish.

VC1_Extension=string: The extension used on demultiplexed VC1 video files will be string. For example: VC1_Extension=vc1 will create a file such as "myfile.vc1".
