The final version of the Windows
Media 8 Encoding Utility was just released. I only tried it out on one
video, but it appears to fix the indexing bug and accept input files that are
larger than 2 GB.
VirtualDub
1.4d was also finally released today. It contains numerous
improvements and bug fixes, including a fix for the minor issues in the resize
filter that plagued previous versions. In my limited usage of the new
version, I found that most of the new features work well, but I don't like the
new cropping window. It makes it impossible to accurately crop video after
resizing it.
I'm sorry that I haven't had much of a chance to work on the
site lately. I have some minor updates coming in the (hopefully) near
future, and I will complete the larger updates when I find the time.

Hmm, they seem to have stopped offering free registration for
the PICVideo MJPEG
codec. The cost is now $18 (US). Since I don't like anything that
isn't free and because there is still a bug in the MJPEG codec, I'll try to find
a better alternative.
I also updated Page 5 of my Telecining
article to explain the "perverse" method of PAL/SECAM telecining.

Phew, the High Resolution Video
Processing page is finally done! Be sure to check it out and let
me know what you think. I've also added a page that describes the
issues surrounding VCDs/SVCDs at 23.976 fps.
This should be helpful for anyone who wants to make VCDs/SVCDs from a video with
a ~24 fps film source.
In addition, I've updated the Classifying Your High
Resolution Video page to further enhance the clarity. Other pages also
received minor updates, such as the Low Resolution
Video Processing page.
My next task will probably be instructions on how to encode high
resolution video.

The Classifying Your High
Resolution Video page has been updated to hopefully make it a bit
clearer. I'm still writing the processing section.

I just finished the first step of my guide to high resolution
processing, entitled Classifying Your High
Resolution Video. As the name says, it describes how to determine the
format of your high resolution video. You will need to know this
information before attempting to process the video. I am currently writing
the second part, which involves the actual processing of your video.

I'm done with class for the next week, so it shouldn't be too
long before my next update. Also, it appears that some popular
website/newsgroup has linked to my guide, but I don't know who. If anyone
could tell me about the place that
linked to me, it would really satisfy my curiosity. :-)
