Well, I'm getting there. I just wrote up an article about High
Vs. Low Resolution Capture. Hopefully, this will help you decide
whether or not you should capture at a higher resolution.

To all the Slashdot people: You're probably looking for Codec
Comparison #2, and possibly Codec Comparison
#1. Also, the analyses were not based on streaming video, but rather
on playback of local video.
Just so everyone knows, I am continuing to work on the high
resolution stuff. Right now, I am extremely busy with real life, but I'm
trying my best to work on the site. I've been playing around with a good,
legal format for encoding videos of any resolution. I also have to do a
little more testing on capturing and processing high resolution video.
However, I've already got most of the information in my head, so what I really
need is an opportunity to write it all down. I'll try my best to update as
soon as possible.

Okay, I lied. I just wrote a short article about Avisynth
and how to use its basic functions. I'll get to the high resolution stuff
whenever I find some free time.

I've added a short article about AVI files and the
infamous 2 GB and 4 GB barriers, entitled AVI File Size
Limits. The next thing I plan on doing is updating the guide to
explain how to capture video at higher resolutions.

To who it may concern, OpenDivX
and the Windows
Media 8 Encoding Utility Beta 2 were recently released. I've haven't
played with them that much, but OpenDivX looks promising. However, it's
rather slow and unoptimized at the moment. As for the WM8EU, it still
seems to have trouble with files larger than 2 GB.
Also, I've revised the Hardware
page a bit and archived the old news into separate pages. (See the bottom
of this page.)

Hi everybody, I've added a new article about Telecining.
It contains everything you've ever wanted to know about telecining, plus about
10 times more. I originally intended the article to fit on a single page,
but I realized that wasn't going to work too well. Accordingly, the
article is split into 5 sections so you don't have read everything all at
once. If you have any questions/comments, feel free to email
me.
I've also added a downloadable version of the guide. It
should contain everything you need to know to capture, process, and encode your
videos. However, I cannot guarantee that the downloadable version will
always be up to date. Therefore, you should check back here every so often
to find the latest updates. You can get the downloadable version of the
guide by clicking on the link near the bottom of the Contents frame.

I've written up an article that describes Interlacing.
I know there are many such articles on the internet, but I think my explanation
is clearer. Of course, I may be a bit biased. ;-) Anyways, the
article is a necessary precursor to another one I'll be writing about
telecining. After that, I'll probably make a section dealing with video
capture at full resolution. I won't make any estimates as to when I'll get
them finished because things always seem to take longer than expected. If
you have any feedback, you can email me.
In addition, GeoCities seems to be having a bit of trouble with
this web site. If you receive a 'page not found' error, just keep hitting
refresh until the page loads.

Whew, I've finally finished my review of WM 8, entitled Codec
Comparison #2. Be sure to check it out! I tried to keep it as
concise as possible, but it still is pretty big. I apologize for the wait,
and I hope you find it useful. (Note: if you want to see an additional
screenshots, you have 24 hours to email
me before I delete the videos to free up hard drive space.)
I also revamped my Software page, adding new
software and organizing things into logical categories.
Finally, I'd like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!
